Life hasn’t slowed down for the creators of Villa Villa Cola’s “Getting Nowhere Faster.” But during the 15 years since the it’s release, the world of non-trad skateboarding has progressed at lighting speed. Recognized far and wide as a cult classic, the video is regularly referenced by the world’s best as the inspiration behind their choice to start skating.

With the help of Full City Coffee Rooster, a super duper sweet coffee shop in NE Portland and lots of other super fab friends, we threw a magazine drop party Sunday and it was fire!! An incredibly special opportunity to see so many familiar faces and officially introduce BIGFOOT to our hometown. I have always felt a great kinship with Celina Meehan because once, before we knew each other, I leant her my ID to get into a bar in Seattle. Neither of us remembered until we met a second time a few years later and put it together. There is an old legend that says if someone successfully uses your ID to get into a bar, it means you are forever linked as “Sisters of Libation”.
The original four headed for the semi-finals were Christiana Means, Sammaria Brevard, Lacey Baker and Candy Jacobs. Sadly Portland’s hometown hero, Christiana, had to forfeit her spot because of an Olympic team commitment in the Philippines. So previous challengers Monica Torres and Chelsea Castro staged a “redemption round,” with Torres ultimately earning her spot in the final four.
“Things look pretty good right now, there’s more money and support which makes for great opportunities and progression. Seeing some of the girls traveling the world with their best friends, having the time of their lives doing their own thing, it makes my heart swell.”
