PORTLAND SKATE FOR BLACK LIVES

Girls and boys. Men and women. Freaks and geeks. Skaters, bladers, roller skaters and a spectrum of skin tones. Everyone was welcome and everyone showed up June 10th to skate around the waterfront for black lives.

Loveletter To LGBTQ+ aka “Queerness in Skateboarding”

This is skateboarding as it should be. It's not about what race you are or who you want to bang. It's about having fun rolling around on a skateboard, being a freak and eating shit. I'm so happy that the tide has finally turned. It feels like the earth's magnetic pull was off axis this whole time and finally, it's back on track. But this time, let's not forget the past. No more beating up on the less celebrated or fortunate. Cause being a fucking dickhead is not cool. Being yourself is.

Kristy Scott – Currently Crushing COVID

Now, Kristy's back in Southern California, hitting up the hot spots and just living her damn LYFE! She just fucking loves to skate. And all the rest of us get to live vicariously. If you are younger, look up to her example. If you are older, close your eyes, forget about your job, kids and all the other lame adult shit and pretend you are her. It's the latest and greatest health & wellness fad for aging skaters. Transcendental skate rat meditation. 🛹🐭🧘‍♀️

ROLL THE *C R E D I T S*

After watching Credits, I had to stop what I was doing to go slappy some curbs. The film is compiled with epic skate spots, creative tricks, hard slams, and getting busted by cops; this film gives an energetic and a “can-do” attitude. The style is visually enhanced with a nostalgic grittiness by recording with vintage camera equipment. As a filmmaker myself, I had to know more! Overall, the fun-loving, positive, energetic theme of the film definitely unleashed my inner hellraiser to go out and fucking get some.

Celina Meehan – Sister of SLAY

I have always felt a great kinship with Celina Meehan because once, before we knew each other, I leant her my ID to get into a bar in Seattle. Neither of us remembered until we met a second time a few years later and put it together. There is an old legend that says if someone successfully uses your ID to get into a bar, it means you are forever linked as "Sisters of Libation".

The Empath’s Guide to Total Domination

Absurd. Lindsay’s narrative is — and has been for these past few weeks —ridiculous. Uncharted. Somehow Suay Sew Shop has flipped from a dark wave of uncertainty to a crowd-funded infusion of over $110,000. The news story recounts the drama of Lindsay, her business partner Heather Pavlu and childhood friend Chloe Schempf as the trio began researching, constructing and innovating the essential and notoriously absent PPE masks.

WHAT THE QUELL? 🤷‍♀️🛹🍻

We were so excited when we heard Quell was holding a day-long series of events last February in partnership with Leo Baker’s NYC Skate Project and sponsored by Nike SB. NYC Skate Project was started by Leo to provide programming for gender non-conforming, trans folx, non-binary folx, and CIS women who skate. We were able to send our MOST EXCELLENT east coast correspondent and resident beginner skater Maya Haptas out to the event and she gave us a run-down of what it’s like to attend.

The Trooper: Trixie Trujillo Steady Mommin’

Jake Phelps gave me that name and didn’t give me a chance to change it. We started the band on my birthday; they came down to see my play one of my last shows in LA with this other band I was playing with called “The Deadutantes.” It was psychobilly weirdness. The show was at the Knitting Factory. Jake and Tony were down there so we went out afterwards. We went to some hotel and thrashed this room and started talking about starting a band. We ended up calling it “Bad Shit.”
