OAKLAND’S CHUB ROLLZ CREW

I started getting back into skating after a 15-year break and was shocked to find that there weren’t more options out there for fat skaters. Mostly just “fail” videos and discouraging weight limits that I knew weren’t true for me when I was a fat skater in high school. Once I started skating again I knew I had to build a safe space for other fatties to learn too so we could grow the representation further and encourage others who thought they couldn’t skate based on their size.
The “Few and Far” Hit Medford!

“Few and Far is an assemblage of women who beautify the streets. In a shared commitment to creativity, education and social justice we draw, paint, skateboard and teach all over the globe.”
Vibing with Ronnie Toms

Ronnie’s cousin Gian got them into skateboarding when they were younger, but at the time they were way more into basketball. “I was a poser. I used to pretend that I skated in high school. People asked me about tricks and I would be like ‘oh, yeah, that one,’ so then I decided to pick it up for real.” Around 19 they really started getting into skating and that’s been a huge part of their life ever since.

PHILLY’S SKATE SHAWTY CREW

Shout out skate community in Philadelphia. Skating is intimidating when you’re starting and we’re out to make it enjoyable for everyone, and be there for those who may be nervous at first. The skate community in Philly is just love for the most part. We’ve gotten nothing but good vibes from people and it’s really all just thanks to everyone we surround ourselves with all the time. We love Philly!
Nancy Pham Schickman on New Mom FOMO; It be like that sometimes

Nancy Pham Schickman was a skater before she became a mom, and admits to some FOMO watching her friends’ progress because for her, skating, or at least gnarly skating, has taken a backseat. “Those days of hucking myself down a set of stairs are on hold until my son is a bit older – or at least until I’m done breastfeeding.” For now, she tries to incorporate skating into as many of her baby’s activities as possible and is happy just to get to push around for half an hour for fun and selfcare.
OJ AND SHEEZY SQUEEZE THE DAY!

Shanae Collins. Every crowd’s favorite, king of the Queen T-shirt, master guitar riffer and much, much more. OJs had a wheely fun day rolling around with the big SHEEZ to a few of her Melbourne go-tos. Check it out as they navigate espresso foam, parking fees, and mangle coping at the St. Kilda skatepark and shred around a couple rad COVID-era DIYs. This is juice worth the squeeze.
LOGO-LESS GO SKATE DAY AT THE COURTS

From beginner to heavies, everyone rolled through to rip around and hang out. It was chill & fun. A mask-less breath of fresh air, and we needed it. Big thanks to everyone involved and HUGE thanks to Olga Aguilar for documenting the occasion!
