EXPOSURE 2022 – DE LOS OJOS DE OLGA

She just puts her head down and shoots, and keeps shooting!

Olga Aguilar has been shooting photos of non-trad skateboarders since before many of todays young rippers were born. The first time I remember seeing her name was on some photos of the OG  Combi ladies crew in the early 2000s. Since then Olga, her husband John and their daughter Nina (a super talented skateboarder) have spent most of their spare time traveling to events near and far, to do the very important and difficult job of capturing these beautiful, significant images in order to share them with the world.

The Aguilars live in Bellingham Washington now, but Olga grew up in Mexico City where in the 1990s, John was a pro skater. When she came to the states and started shooting, she faced the daunting task of re-learning life and photography in English, making her accomplished photography career even more impressive.

Olga might not be a completely unsung hero- if you’ve been around, you already know and love her. She is intrinsic to our scene and one of the most humble people I know – which makes acknowledging her talent and hard work a little more difficult. But as the year comes to a close, it’s important to remember the ones who have your back, and for me and thousands of skaters who’s images she’s beautifully captured on camera, that is Olga. The story of non-trad skateboarding has been recorded for decades now, through her eyes. Gracias for todo Olga, te amo! -Migz
